KINN STUDIO
FLAGSHIP
Reconfiguring an existing footprint of a clothing store to include Jennie's vision of a private appointment area, as well as a flagship showroom. I wanted to incorporate an architectural feature so that the store feels regal, and not like an empty box. One of the challenges was creating a new space in an existing closet and making it feel elegant and considered. We came up with the idea of the sculptural moldings that crown the entry to the private appointment room and the top of the mirror and furred those entire walls out to create depth. The material we used to cover the walls is a cement plaster that dries with a very textural, stone-looking finish- the intent was to make the walls feel like the exterior of an older building, and bring in a unique and imperfect finish to complement the sleekness of the rest of the build-out.
The jewelry displays were custom-built out of maple and clad in Campolonghi Dover White leathered marble which was fabricated on-site. The stone is so unique, with a tinge of green and a bit of swirly grey veining. Because of the honed finish, there is a subtle sparkle to it up close. Jennie and I loved the idea of incorporating stone as a feature element of the space: stone from my world as an interior designer to showcase the stones of her world as a jewelry designer. The stone facade of the display cases was designed so that the entire surface is sleek and flush. We routed LED lighting across the back in a hidden channel to really illuminate Kinn's gorgeous pieces.
The center display was designed to function with one tier as a checkout for customers with an integrated front and top glass display. I designed this piece with curved sides and a custom lacquered finish.
In the private appointment room, I had custom-colored round sconces made to match the finish of the plaster, so they feel almost a part of the wall. We custom-built a rounded bench that follows the same design as the central display.
